I am an artist, playworker and gardener. Sometimes I’m lucky to do all three jobs at the same time! The best thing is that I never get bored. My favourite times are when I’m around children watching them do what they do best, playing and being creative.
One lesson I have learnt from working with Play Pods is that nothing is rubbish. As I was dragging a pile of dirty, soggy scraps of well used cardboard boxes and bits of tubes to the bin one day a boy stopped me and took them away to the corner of the playground. I watched him guarding the heap like a sentry, it turned out this pile of ‘rubbish’ was very precious indeed.
I should know, I create my art using found objects such as sticks, wire, tin cans and recently lumps of concrete, taking inspiration from children’s power to transform objects with their imaginations.
